Is it ludicrous to hire someone to clean my home? With this commute, I'm effectively working 50-hours per week and wanting to still see my children and I just can't do it, people! I feel like it's luxuriant or something - an indulgence, a waste, a cop-out. I'm not talking like a full-scale housekeeper; come on, I don't pull THOSE kinda bucks. But I mean just someone to clean once a week. You know, we keep "picked up", and she scrubs the tub - that kinda thing.
Please, do express yourselves.

Actually seriously considering it for myself...NOT luxuriant, prioritizing. I am also sick of all of my spare time being spent on my house...or living in the filth of the consequences.
Get the cleaner. I 100% support that move. In this case I would not consider it a luxury but a blessing to have someone take care of stuff that would otherwise take you away from your kids. Go for it, girl! And don't think for a second that you don't deserve the help or that it's unnecessary. The most important thing is that you want to spend time with your family, and I'm sure they'll appreciate it too.
Go FOR IT Stef!!!! One woman can only do soo much!! I have a friend who homeschools and is at home and still has someone come and clean. If I could afford one.......................well I dont' think I would mind one bit!
It is absolutely NOT ludicrous to hire a housekeeper to take a little pressure off of you. June Clever didn't work outside the home - you do.
Please, do yourself a favor and get someone to help out.
GO FOR IT!! Anytime you can get someone else to scrub your toilet and floors you should do it!! Doesn't mean you don't love your family any less - you are doing it so you can free up time to spend with them, and that is what is most important in this world. Oh that and also having a glass of wine while you sit out on the deck and let the sun shine on your face. :)
I'm at home and there are days/weeks I wish I had someone coming to clean!! Don't feel guilty...nothing wrong with knowing your limitations and putting your kids before scrubbing the tub!!! GOOD FOR YOU!!
Even if you didn't do the weekly thing, certainly a monthly "scrub" can make a world of difference.
I think my in-laws used to have someone come every other week when they both worked full time.
You know, if you can swing it financially, I think it would be a big burden off your shoulders. You can focus on your family when you're home, rather than the ring in the tub. (:
My 2 cents.
Don't do it! Everything is better when its home made even cleaning. I am just taking the opposing viewpoint.
But seriously ... I hope you hire the kids to do it. Nothing says "I love you" more than scrubbing the toilet. How else is allowance earned???
How interesting you bring this up!! I don't even work 50 hours, but between full time school and full time Nathanael, I felt like I was being pulled in a million different directions, and just hired someone to clean my house once a week. Let me tell you, worth every cent. Don't think it's a ridiculous luxury at all. I was trying to get Ret to jump on the bandwagon.....she needs it more than I!
Steff,
GO FOR IT! I can't tell you the number of times when I've wished I had someone coming to clean the things I hate to clean myself, and so don't get done anywhere near often enough. Sounds like the kind of service I'd love to have, and I have the same crazy hours you do, and two kids, too! I don't, because I'm one of those who has to clean up before the cleaning lady comes!
By the way, I just found out you re-joined our crazy work organization- welcome back!
