Gone to see the Big House

Grand Rapids was always, as I understand it, the third choice of the OBs and neonatologists for me. MIlwaukee and University of MIchigan hospitals were first, but Milwaukee's NICU is full and U of M would not accept my transfer days ago. However, once I hit the 24 week mark on Tuesday and had also beaten all expectations by not delivering within hours of arrival at the hospital, I am apparently now rather interesing... enough to send one of the OB chiefs from Ann Arbor on a leer jet to pick me up. Yesterday Dr. Vandeven arrived in the morning to evaluate me and see if I was stable enough for transport. He was worried about take off in the jet, as regulations said the head of my bed had to be toward the front of the plane at all times and that would exert great force on my already open cervix during take-off and ascent. But it was ultimately decided that getting me there as quickly as possible was paramount, as they are describing me as a ticking bomb (one with two now viable lives inside). Well, I say, let's just see how long I can tick....
Anyway, I was amazed that the flight was less than one hour from take-off to landing. How incredibly fast must Survival Flight go, considering that it's an eight hour drive from Marquette to Ann Arbor???
We are settled in here now and are experiencing the same pattern of calm days peppered with very scary hours, bustling about of docs each time "The Explorer" tries to escape again, and lots of talks with neonatologists about what our wishes are in this case or in that case. Derek is able to stay with me through this week and then will work Mondays through Thursdays at home, coming to see me on the weekends. I am trusting that any potential delivery will take place when he is here, so that we can make decisions and cope together.
Thanks for your prayers and support. More later...

Hi Steffanie,

Can you pass along your address at the hospital so MOPS moms can send cards? :)

We're all praying for you and your family.

Feeling kind of like a lab rat or guinea pig?
Praying that you make an excellent incubator!

Hey Steff,

I'm so glad to hear that everything is ok for the moment. You are an incredibly strong person, and I know that everything will work out. In no time you will be bringing those beautiful babies home to meet us! If you need anything, please call me.

Love ya,
Tricia, Jeremy, & Jacob
