Fall in the U.P.

For man, autumn is a time of harvest, of gathering together. For nature, it is a time of sowing, of scattering abroad. ~Edwin Way Teale

The leaves have almost peaked here. Last week the highs were in the low 50's. Of course this week it has been back up to 70, but such is the nature of living above the 44th Parallel!

Nadia began pre-school last week. She loves it, and does well. She told me that she REALLY wanted a Thomas backpack....

....but cried when I brought it home from the store because it was blue (and not pink). Who knew?

We went bowling on Friday night, the kids new favorite thing to do.

I wish I had some decent shots of Nadia bowling, but I can never catch one just right. She granny-shoots and puts it in the gutter every time, but it sure is cute.

Oh, for those of you wondering why we don't use bumpers - Derek says "We BOWL."

F.Y.I. - Saturday was Opening Day of bird season. Please note that our life will revolve around shooting grouse of all sorts for the next many weeks, or until we have enough small game for a Monster Game Feast, whichever comes first.

Derek and Blake went out immediately on Saturday morning for Opening Day and were gone until dusk. They returned with these two lovely partridge (here already reduced to just the breasts). Blake is holding the feathers he reportedly wants to use to make arrows for the homemade bow he is apparently also going to craft.

In case you were wondering how truly out in the middle of nowhere we live...

On Sunday afternoon we four headed out for a full eight hours of road hunting. I got some great pics of this new home of mine...

...and Derek got one more bird.

The office is coming right along.

This is the beginning of our reception desk. Tomorrow I plan to take some more pics of inside, but it's a little deceptive without any drywall up - you just kind of look through all the walls, and in pictures I find you can't decipher what's what.

It behooves every man to remember that the work of the critic, is of altogether secondary importance, and that, in the end, progress is accomplished by the man who does things. ~Teddy Roosevelt

Yes, O Sharp Ones, Derek IS wearing the same shirt on Friday night and again all day on Saturday. Nothing new. He IS a man.

Haha, GROSS DEREK! I can't believe Nadia is in preschool...and that you didn't get her a pink Thomas backpack. What were you thinking? :)

umm... yeah. my son wanted a dora (no, not diego) lunch bag, and they were all pink and purple. we bought it, but then he saw the transformers lunch bag at the next store and made his own decision to have that one instead. (whew.) :)
